Indigenous
Tree Plantation and Organic Gardening
Pakistan’s
forest cover has fallen to less than 4%, against a required 25%. Our plantation
campaigns started in 1997, and we encourage and promote indigenous trees
and plants taking care not to disturb local ecosystems.
We
have planted more than 80,000 indigenous trees in Pakistan, with a survival
rate of more than 80%. We focus on places where the sustainability of
trees can be ensured. Some of our landmark plantation sites include the
City Sports Complex Karachi, The Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad, sites
in rural Punjab and Sindh, the University of Karachi and Kachnar Park
in Islamabad, amongst many others.
We have also initiated campaigns promoting organic gardening by putting
up stalls at local horticultural shows and workshops with local universities
where free seeds or teaching sessions on how to grow vegetables are given.
Low income localities have also been targeted to promote an awareness
of organic gardening and its benefits in all stratas of society.
