Our staple
nutrition source is at stake now. Despite recent and token governmental
“interventions,” the prices of wheat remain sky high, and
worse climbing, whereas shortage abound. Not only ploys in political maneuvering,
but more dangerously environmentally unsafe practices and misplaced priorities
are the basic causes of this crisis. Use of pesticides, reckless wastage
of natural resources, as well as unmitigated economic gains for the few
mean that the poor have to bear the brunt of the policies made out by
those in power.
Hoarding cannot be made the sole scapegoat for the current wheat crises, the deeper issues relate to lack of proper input resource allocation, the dwindling water supply being a primary woe. Sustained yields require that we crop such sources of continual failure for the future of our agrarian economy.
Organic farming is the tried, tested, traditional means to sustainable agricultural growth. Modern farming practices, in order to protect crops, implemented the application of agro-chemicals to growing plants.
