Championship 2006 November 3, 2006 Press Release Aqeel Khan will face his brother Jalil Khan in the final of Men’s singles in the Arif Habib Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championships 2006 at Islamabad Club – Islamabad . Top Aqeel Khan proved to good for junior player Tanveer Ashiq in the semifinal. Aqeel won the match in the straight set at 6-2,6-1. he did not allowed his junior opponent to settle down throughout the match. In the second semi final Jalil Khan younger brother of Aqeel Khan made the upset by beating 2nd seed Asim Shafik in straight sets. Jalil won the first set at 6-4 by breaking 12th game of Asim. In the second set Jalil Khan build up the lead 5-4 and was serving for the match, but Asim fought back and level the score 5 all. The match was decided in the tie break which Jalil won at 7-4. Sarah Mahboob will face Anoosha Aslam in the final of Ladies event when they eliminated their respective opponents in three set match encounter. In the first semifinal Sarah Mahboob beat Aamena Hamid at 6-3,6-7(5),6-3 while Anoosha Aslam had to work hard to win her match against Anoosha Aslam. Anoosha Aslam lost the first set at 6-4 and was down 3-0 in the second set. But she fought back and won the second set at 6-4 and level the score 1 set all. She won the final set quit convincingly at 6-1. Aamena Hamid crowned the U-17 Girls Singles event. Unseeded Aamena Hamid beat the top seed Sarah Mahboob in straight sets 6-4,6-3 and took her revenge of the Ladies semi final match against Sarah. Tanveer Ashiq beat Yasir Khan in the final of Boys U17 in well contested three set final. Tanveer lost the first at 6-4 and then he came back strongly and won the second set at 6-3. The match was seceded in the final set which Tanveer won at 6-2 In the boys U-13 category S. Zohair Raza beat Jibran ul Haq in three sets. Won the boys U-13 title. Zohair Raza beat Jibran ul Haq 0-4,4-3,4-0 Mixed Doubles Semifinals: Jalil Khan / Aamena Hamid beat Aqeel Khan / Sarah Mahboob 7-6(6)
The final matche of Men’s Singles will be held tomorrow at 2:30 pm . Ladies Singles final will be played tomorrow at 9:30 followed by Mixed doubles final
