SUBH-E-NAU Women’s tennis championship: Nida Waseem got the title of ladies single

ISLAMABAD, March, 10, 2007: Emerging tennis star Nida Waseem clinched the title of the ladies single category in Subh-e-Nau Pakistan women’s tennis tournament. She defeated her opponent Sara Mehboob, the number one player in national ranking, after a crucial encounter. Sara Mehboob sailed through the first set but Nida got her together in second by winning 6-0. The last set was finely contested however Nida showed true grit by clinching it at 6-2.
Finals and Prize Distribution ceremony were re-scheduled due to weather conditions as those were scheduled to hold on 11th march. Final matches were also shifted to a private indoor facility from Islamabad club due to heavy rain.

In ladies doubles category Sara Mehboob and Naosh Aslam beat Nida Waseem and Nosheen Ahtisham by 6-3andf 6-3 and got the title. Their opponents showed some resistance but in they were unable to get the winners trophy.

In girls under 15 category Ushna Sohail played quite aggressively and forced Mehak Khokhar at erratic play throughout the game. She out classed Mehak by winning first two sets by 6-1and 6-2.

Over Rupees two hundred thousand with shields and certificates was disbursed among the players according to ITF rules in post match ceremony. The winner of ladies singles category Nida Waseem was made richer with rupees forty thousand and a wining trophy while the runner up for same category Sara mahboob was awarded with twenty six thousand. Semi finalists of ladies singles Nida Waseem, Sara mehboob, Sara Mansoor and Saba Aziz were also awarded with rupees seven thousand each. Quarter finalists of the ladies singles Sara Mehboob, Nida Waseem, Sara Mansoor, Saba Aziz, Naila Khan, Mehak Khokhar, Anosha Aslam and Qurrat-ul-Ain were awarded with twenty five hundred rupees each. Pre quarter Finalists of the same category Sara Mehboob, Nida Waseem, Sara Mansoor, Saba Aziz, Naila Khan, Mehak Khokhar, Anosha Aslam Qurrat-ul-Ain, Haleema Ikram, Sana Qaiser Naveera Waheed, Neelam Khan, Amina Ayaz, Fatima Manssor, Zara Umer and Shahida Badshah were also awarded with rupees one thousand each.

Ushna Sohail was winner of girls under 15 category and was awarded with twenty thousand rupees while her runner up Mehak Khokhar got the prize purse of twelve thousand rupees. Semi finalists of the of this category Ushna Sohail, Mehak Khokhar,Mehreen Azhar and Amna Ayaz were given rupees three thousand each. Quarter finalist of the under fifteen category Ushna Sohail, Mehak Khokhar,Mehreen Azhar, Amna Ayaz, Zoya Khan, Hamaiel Zoyla and Sana Qaiser were also given prize money of rupees one thousand each.
In veterans category the winner Nosheen Ahtishmam was given twelve thousand rupees while her runner up Shahida Farooq got eight thousand rupees.

Ladies doubles category winners Sara Mehboob and Anosha Aslam were awarded with rupees 18 thousand and their runner up pair Nida Waseem and Nosheen Ahtisham were given 12 thousand rupees. Semi finalists of this category ere also awarded with rupees 5 thousand per pair.

Subh-e-Nau chairperson Shahida Kausar Farooq distributed awards among the players. On this occasion she emphasized the need to bring forth women in main stream in every walk of life. She also congratulate the winning players.
