In Boys’ juniors’ U-17 category, Heera Ashiq became the champion after before his opponent Faizan Khurram was retired hurt. Heera was leading first by 4-1.

Mrs. Shahida Kauser Farooq, Chairperson Suh-e-Nau, distributed prizes among the winners. A total of 150,000 rupees were disbursed. At this occasion, Mrs. Farooq said we have maintained our exclusive Ladies’ Tennis Championship for the fourth time successfully. This event was to be held in March, however due to lack of PTF’s planning, and lack of sponsorship due to recession, we had to hold it now. The Juniors’ tournament was organized to provide an opportunity to players who were mostly present here. The Juniors Tournament is sponsored by Subh-e-nau itself.

Before the finals, briefing to journalists she said that SN proposes and plans to produce 5 good men’s and 5 women’s, 5 umpires/referees and 5 coaches in the coming five years. She also said that PTF under an able leadership has been able to develop an international facility. But now is the time to develop the right human resource based on merit. PTF should concentrate now on expanding the players’ base. One example of why we’re saying this is that from PTF’s School Tennis Initiative program, there wasn’t even a single girl’s or ladies’ player. Even if they’re beginners, they should have participated in the twin tournaments this year. She said that after the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan players at Lahore in March, international events have reduced almost to zero. While sending players abroad is also very costly. Therefore, we need to concentrate on setting our own house right first.

Mrs. Farooq hoped that PTF would cooperate in our initiatives, and also learn from what we are trying to advise to them. She announced that National Hard Court and Clay Court are also planned this year by SN.
