Subh-e-Nau Tennis:- Aqeel, Sara Crowned Hard Court titles.
National Clay Court from Monday

Islamabad, October, 10, 2009:- Top seeds Aqeel Khan and Sara Mahboob clinched the titles of Subh-e-Nau National Hard Court Tennis Championship here on Saturday. Aqeel beat his sibling Jalil in Men’s Singles final. Though Jalil played some beautiful strokes, however, Aqeel defended his title very well. he won the decider by 2-0.

Saba Aziz from Lahore displayed great play against country’s number one female player Sara Mahboob. She won first set by 7-6 but could not continue her effort in second set and was down by 3-6. She bounced back in decisive set; however, Sara won the battle of nerves by 7-6 after Tie break.

In Boys U-17, Heera Ashiq was victorious after beating his city mate Faizan Khurram.. Heer won this match by 7-6 and 6-0. Faizan, though gave tough time in first to winner, however could not continue his effort in second set. In boys U-13 Final, Hasnain Manzoor outclassed Saad Zafar and won the final by 2-0.

Federal Minister for Sports Pir Aftab Shah Jilani distributed the prizes among the players. A total of 160 thousand were disbursed among the players according to the rules of International Tennis Federation (ITF). Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister lauded the efforts of organizers and said that sports were essential for the youth of the country. He said that players should present themselves as the most disciplined people of the society, however, if they don’t, they should be treated according to rules. He said that his ministry would continue supporting sports federations and NGOs. .

Chairperson Subh-e-Nau Mrs. Shahida Kauser Farooq thanked Federal Minister and Pakistan Sports Board staff. Federal Minister and players also planted tree saplings near Tennis courts after the prize distribution ceremony.

Meanwhile Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court is going to star from Monday at Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex. Players like Aqeel Khan and Sara Mahboob will feature in the tournament.
